Melvin’s music performance

Saw Melvin’s guitar performance, during the IBS Music Team performing at the Pool Garden on IBS’ 19th anniversary, posted on facebook, with a tagline ‘Feeling awesome’. Didn’t like it though. Vocalists was not that great ( Esp the song, ‘tum bin’), and everyone had performed so mechanically. There was no life whatsoever. Even when the audience requested for a Malayalam song, instead of singing it immediately ( they had one, coming after sometime) they chose to go with the order in which they practised. I felt the audience supported them, because the audienceĀ had no other choice ( you have to support your colleagues, right ?).

And for someone like Melvin, to simply stand there and play the chords like a robot, according to me, didn’t make any sense at all ! Maybe deep within he also seeks recognition, in some or the other form and also he can convince himself to spend more time in practice when some ‘event’ comes up and provide a valid reason for his family as well, which may not happen if he tries to do solo practice without any ‘reason’

I felt we could do more – creating music that moves, lead the audience, bring reverberations from the base of the spine. It could also be just a dream. But sometimes, dreams become more real than real life.
