This beautiful Nikon baby, my Nikon DSLR arrived at my home on 25th January 2014. And this great piece of equipment gets added to the list of few things that totally changed my life
What is so special about photography?
1. Seeing beauty in everyday objects
Photography helped me see the world in a totally different way. Initially, as part of taking better photographs, I had to analyze the light, its color and also keep my eyes open for any interesting subject. But this soon turned out to be a new ability that was developing in me, that is, the ability to see the world in a totally new perspective, with all its beauty, color, and vibrancy. The skill to look for details is almost becoming a second nature to me.
I was able to see beauty in the largest or even the smallest of the things. For example, please have a look at the photo of sugar crystals. I, myself could not imagine there was so much beauty hidden within the ordinary looking sugar crystals.
When I went to my hometown, I forced my parents to come with me to the beach and I got a chance to take some beautiful pictures of my mom and dad, as well as of the sunset. I also went to our garden and clicked photos of our homegrown chicken, flowers, and plants. This totally changed my perspective of visiting my parents because thanks to this hobby, the whole process of traveling and the homestay is more exciting than ever before.
Thanks to this new skill, I get to ‘see’ things that I had not seen before or maybe appreciate something that was so mundane, like a droplet of water or a bird flying and think about its beauty. All these add excitement and spice to my life
2. Building stronger relationships
In my life, I always wanted to come out of my little shell that I had built around me and explore the world around me and build relationships. Thanks to photography, I get to talk to people, meet new people and get to know my friends in a better way. It was just yesterday that I met up with my friends at Lal Bagh and we went for a photo walk, clicking random things and also pictures of each other.
Thanks to my interest in photography, people ask me questions about cameras and photography and so on, which helps me interact with people, more than ever before. I get to talk to my mom, hours together, about photography techniques and it has helped her as well in understanding different photography techniques
3. Understanding people and their emotions
Believe it or not, a person goes through several hundred emotions every minute and that will most probably be reflected on their face. When you take a close up picture of someone’s face, you get to see these fast-changing emotions, in detail, frozen in time. This is such a beautiful thing if you are interested in learning about people and their emotions. You compete with yourself is creating the best portraits of people, in the best possible manner
4. Lots to learn and also it’s an art form
You get to learn about several new things each day so that your technical side is satisfied. At the same time, the way you compose your image and also the lighting setup that you use has a lot to do with your artistic nature, thereby satisfying your artistic side as well.
I even have my photo blog up and running with detailed information about how to take good photographs. The whole process helped me understand photography in a much better way
All in all, photography has helped me to look forward to tomorrow, for a new day, with new opportunities and new way to see the world
