Prologue
I was always amazed by my dad’s oratory skills and his awesome writing abilities. Even though he learned in Malayalam medium, he always had a good grasp of the English language compared to most people of his age group
Year : 1993 or 1994
My name was suggested for the speech during the school assembly, on the morning of the school assembly day. The topic chosen was obedience. My dad wrote an amazing piece on ‘Obedience’, even giving example from the Bible, where because of the lack of obedience, the angels were cast out of heaven.
It was a one page speech and I by hearted and recited it several times to my dad. Although I lacked confidence, he encouraged me a lot and gave me the confidence that I will be able to do it. Although I was scared initially, I finally gathered the courage to face the whole school on the stage and give my 100 %
On the day of the event, although I was afraid, I went to the stage and gave my speech. Initially I panicked a bit, but then everything turned out to be perfectly fine. I looked through the crowd to see my dad’s face, but could not see him. Since he had to go to office, I was not sad that he could not make it.
When we came back home, dad said my speech was awesome. I asked him, how did he come to know about that. He told that he was right there and listened to me all along and just loved the way he spoke. I knew he was there and I was so happy when he confirmed this. He immediately handed me over a small lamp ( battery operated) which when you turn its knob, increases and decreases the light produced. I was so happy beyond measure and that beautiful day got registered in my heart as one of the most happiest day of my lives.
