Reflection on the book ‘By the river Piedra …’

By the river Piedra, i sat down and wept. The title itself got me curious. There is some peace, some pain in that title. How I wish I could sit on the bank of such river, very far off and weep.

I wish I could go there, sit, meditate, write and weep. Weep till there are no tears left, just like Pilar, the protagonist of the novel. Love can bring ecstasy in your life and utter sorrow. Love makes you love yourself as well as hate. Love makes you feel at your best as well as worst. That is the power of Love. It is so truly said in the novel that ” Life was there before you were born and life continues to exist even after you are dead. It’s the same with love. It was there before, it is there after you think it has left you.

Love never changes, but the person whom you love does. Love is always there inside me, sometimes it’s happy, sometimes it’s broken. It’s just that till the time comes, till someone comes and makes you feel the existence of the love, you are confused and torn. Till it happens we don’t know if it does. It’s such a strange universe and marvelous at the same time. It keeps you wondering all the time. We do not know what is going to happen, in the very next moment: The building where you are sitting now, may collapse or the love of your life may just walk in to your life. Some things we can anticipate and others we can’t.

We think we know everything, still we don’t know anything.
