A few days back, I received a call from an individual who was trying to sell Kotak bank credit card. I was told about one specific card. Since I was busy, I asked them to call me the next day.
So when I got some time in the evening, I checked out the website of Kotak and found that they had several different types of cards to offer. One was called the Solaris card and it had several benefits that I was looking for.
As expected, I got a call from the credit card people the very next day, and asked them about the Solaris card which they had no idea about and they were totally clueless. I was told that they would find about it and get back to me.
Few minutes back, that is today, I received a call again from the credit card people, and they explained to me the features of the Solaris card.
But I had a question regarding one of the features : they had told me that if you spent more than 2 lakh per year then you get 4000 as the bonus points. And each point equals 1 Rupee.
Then suddenly I remembered that I had read in their website, that certain transactions would not be part of this 2 lakh scheme. For example, if you book tickets through IRCTC, that is, railway ticket booking, then that would not amount to this 2 lakh spending per year scheme.
I asked them about this and I was put on hold for sometime on the phone and later the call was passed to some other individual, which I assume was their supervisor. This person had good communication skills and asked me to repeat my question.
I repeated my question and she said “Yes that is correct, for IRCTC it won’t be added to the 2 lakh spending” I asked that person if there are any other conditions are clauses like that. The person said no. But I clearly remembered that there were other situations where this transaction wouldn’t be accounted for.
When she came to know that I had read through these things, she asked me to Google if I had more questions. I was taken back a little by her audacity. I abruptly stopped her from continuing and told her that we can end this call because whatever information I need I can get it from Google and I may not need your help. I said bye and then cut the call.
I just thought that she just lost a customer because she was not willing to come down a little bit, from the throne, that she knew everything. May be, she was following the 80/20 principle, I don’t know and I may never know.
But it’s interesting to see and deal with so many types of people
