Learning to drive a car – Part – I

By | February 15, 2016

Today was one of the most important days of my life – the day when I passed the learner license test. It all started on Saturday, when I had an angel dream and felt a sudden urge after I woke up from my sleep go out and enroll myself for the driving class. I was also motivated by G.

Since I had previously googled for driving schools nearby, I had zeroed in on Balaji driving school, which is just 8 minutes walk from my home. I went there and spoke to Veena, who clearly explained to me about the whole process. It was 3500 for 4 wheeler and 1300 for 2 wheeler. And if you do it together, you can get it done from 4500, which is what I opted for.

The classes were scheduled to start on Monday and it will extend for 10 days after which I have to attend the driving test. For the four wheeler, car would be provided by the driving school people. For two wheeler, they said, they would charge 300 Rs for 1 hour of class and suggested I learn from somewhere else. I thought I would get hold of Sriharish or Chandran.

Today I reached in front of Ganesh Templeat 8:35 AM and my instructor Mani, was waiting for me. As soon as I came, he asked me to sit in the driver’s seat. I was quite surprised. Within a few minutes, he asked me to start the vehicle and we were on our way, cruising through CMH road, Indiranagar and Swami Vivekananda road, heading past, signals, police and people on the road. I must say, he is a very talented guy with an eye of everything that happens. In his seat, he had a set of cluth, break and accelerator. My job on the first day was to keep the steering steady.

The form is pretty straight forward, as shown below
