In a society where people seek active medical help, like the US, this statistic is kind of shocking
In 2012, there were an estimated 43.7 million adults aged 18 or older in the U.S. with AMI in the past year. This represented 18.6 percent of all U.S. adults.
NOTE: AMI stands for Any mental illness
Now think about this, In a country like ours, this number could be much higher. So there is a good chance that someone who is very close to you might actually be having AMI.
After seeing this, I am not surprised to find my friends going through a living hell, thanks to their spouse or friends or family members exhibiting neurotic behaviour. Asking people showing these kind of characteristic to seek medical help, is something unthinkable in my society( India ), thanks to the taboo attached.
All I can ask you, my dear friend, is to strengthen yourself, get support systems( friends, hobbies, family members) in place and hope and pray for the best. I am sure, your answer is on the way. After all, even the night cannot last forever, the sun has to shine through !
