Monday was the third class that I was attending for the kids who came to learn spoken english. As usual, Jyothi was doing an excellent job, coaching these kids. And as usual, I was sitting there, wondering how am I supposed to contribute to this initiative.
And after nearly 1 week of contemplation, it dawned on me today, that I could teach the kids probably 5 or 10 words everyday. Where shall I start ? I googled for ‘500 top words in English’, because I had read somewhere that if you learn 500 most common words, you could master any language. But once I glanced through the list, I knew 500 was not a good target to achieve, we definitely need more words to communicate effectively and I came across this list of ‘Longman Communication 3000‘
Now I had the word list. How do I effectively explain it to the kids ? I went to flipkart and ordered two dictionaries
- English to Hindi
- English to Kannada
I plan to talk to Jyothi and request to take 15 minutes of the time and teach kids 10 words and once they learn that, the next day, I could teach 10 more words and so on. Let’s see how this plan works out by the grace of God
