It was a while back that I talked to my friend, Swaroop about visiting orphanages or old age homes. So when he told me about his plan to visit some place in the weekend. I was thrilled.
Unfortunately I had to work late night, due to some office work, that I had to complete the previous day and because of that, I was no mood to get up and head to this place. When Swaroop called me in the morning, I told him that, I was in no position to join him.
I kept the phone down and thought about this great opportunity that I would be missing. I picked up my accoustic guitar played a few chords and I could see the energy flowing through me.
I called Swaroop again and told me that I am ready for the adventure.
The plan was to meet Mr.Anand who would then take us to an old age home and then to an orphanage. the bus ride took more than 1 hour, but I enjoyed it. Swaroop was there to give me company, as he always does.
with the help of Anand, we firstly visited the old age home. We decided to talk to one of the inmates. She she knew only Telugu ( which I am not familiar with ) But when Anand took the added responsibility of being the translator for us, everything went on smoothly.
It was a great experience for all of us. Talking to them, we learned a lot of things. It gave me a very different perspective of the world. It made me wonder, what we all could do with our lives. Rather that wasting it totally on someone or something, we could use this life, this God given gift, to bring comfort and company to people around us.
After this overwhelming experience, Anand invited to his house where we had lunch and he also introduced us to this well trained obedient labrador dog. the dog’s name was ‘Lucky’
Post lunch, we went to the orphanages, where everyone spend a good amount of time with kids. They were 25 kids, between the ages 5 to 13. Most of them spoke fluent Kannada. One of the girls even invited us to her birthday, which was on Tuesday ( 10th Jun ) The kids were very jovial and played on their own, in and around the house. The person who was supposed to be taking care of this cildren, that is,, the caretaker was sleeping peacefully with his room locked out.
After that we went to an amazing Kerala style cafe and spend some quality time there.
