Easy Tomato installation on ASUS RT-N16

By | November 8, 2013

I heard about modding router, way back in 2004. Back then, the only option I was aware of, was the famous open source router Linksys WRT54G. I downloaded ebooks and drooled about the day when I would finally get my hands on one of these and hack them to my heart’s content.

Fast forward 2013. I have the money, the will and the time to do WHATEVER I WANT. Oops ! there was too much pride in that statement. Let me rephrase it, By God’s will I was able to buy a brand new ASUS RTN16 a month back and was looking for replacing the stock firmware with something better.

Voila ! Here comes easyTomato (http://www.easytomato.org/features) It had mostly everything I had looked for and more. It only lacked a torrent downloader. But for tinkering purposes, this is more than enough and I am impressed 🙂

You can find the installation instructions here. I followed it step by step and in less than 5 minutes I had my ASUS running on tomato firmware. It has loads and loads of features to keep me busy for the next few days and I am really impressed.

Next goals

  1. Setting up VPN
  2. Torrent downloader
